Bye Week/ week 5

Dear Wakeland HS Band Family and Friends,
 
Thank you for a great week of rehearsal and a good game on Thursday night! I am proud of all the work you have done to set us up for October. The rehearsal this past Saturday showed off your hard work and dedication to excellence. This season is going to be something special!
 
Thank you to all of the parent volunteers this week! From chaperones to concessions and field/prop crew, we cannot operate without your time commitment and dedication to supporting the Wakeland Band!

A few announcements and reminders:
 
 

  • Monday night rehearsal is at Wakeland on the band practice field from 5-7pm.

 

  • Volunteer signups for contests are available, Thank you to those who have helped us with our previous events. This is a great opportunity to see the “behind the scenes” of the WHS band and to a great way to cheer on for the Wakeland band at competitions.

 

  • BAND PHOTO DAY: Thursday September 22 4:30-6:30 pm
    • John Pryor will be taking the group shot for the yearbook and programs as well as student individual portraits in uniform for purchase.

 

  • Wind Symphony:        
    • Please check the calendar, there is a REQUIRED afterschool clinic coming up on Tuesday September 20 with Mr. Tom Bennett. Start time: 4:30 pm – please get down to the band hall quickly.

 

  • Spirit Night at Palio’s Pizza: September 20 11am-9pm
    • Mention the WHS Band and a % of proceeds come to us!

      • Warren/Legacy Dr (Frisco)

 

  • Reminder: Football game visitor changes
    • I would like to invite alumni to visit the band in the 3rd quarter of football games.

Week of September 12

Dear Wakeland HS Band Family and Friends,

 

What a fantastic job at the game on Friday night! We continued to support our colleagues on the football field and that does not go unnoticed, so thank you for your professionalism and support. I am proud of all the work you have done to perform at such a high level this early at halftime. Thank you all parents for the on-going support for your students and the Wakeland band program. We are very excited about sharing this season with you!

 

We have lots of work to do this week as we prepare to put Part III on the field. Be ready to dig in and work hard!

What a fantastic job representing the Wakeland Band and Wakeland High School at the game! I am very proud of all the work you have done to perform at a high level on Friday Night. We have lots of work to do this week as we prepare, make sure you are working on things at home.

 

Thank you chaperones and field crew for helping to make sure we traveled safely and had a smooth game at Lovejoy.

Week 2

Dear Wakeland HS Band Family and Friends,

                         

 IT’S Football MARCHING BAND SEASON!!!

WOW! What a great job at the Opening Ceremony game! I am very proud of the professionalism and patience you all showed with the event on Saturday! I have heard nothing but good things from everyone including administration on our campus and FISD Administration.

Thank you chaperones and field crew for helping to make sure we traveled safely and had a great time WINNING our first game of the year!

A few announcements and reminders as we begin the school year, I do apologize for this week’s email being long. We have a lot coming up with our first performance of “Vortex”:

 

·      This week’s uniform for the football game will be in full marching band uniform and performing Part I to “Vortex” at Lovejoy HS.

 

·      Stadium Rehearsal at Memorial Stadium on Monday night.

o   7:00-9:00pm

§  Attendance is taken in block at 7:00pm

 

·      Chaperone sign-ups will be coming soon through CHARMS. Please keep an eye on your email late Monday night or Tuesday morning.

o   We are very limited on how many passes we get so please be patient. Sign-ups are on a first come first serve.

o   If you are interested in volunteering for field crew this season, contact Jeremy Derucki at booster-fieldcrew@wakelandband.com

 

·      Show Hair Tutorial-
The show hair tutorial is mandatory for all wind/ percussion students with hair longer than chin length. We are providing two afternoons to choose from in order to accommodate extended class schedules. During this time, Mrs. Seneca will go through an in-depth hands-on process with the students in order to create a unified look for our show hair.

o   Items students will need to bring
Brush
3 ponytail holders-
 must be similar to the student’s hair color
Hair snap clips- if your student has shorter or very layered hair- must be similar to the student’s hair color
Hair pins- these are different than bobby pins because they are open at the end instead of closed- these can be found at Walgreens and Sally’s Beauty Supply

 

·      Uniform ordering has been opened up for a second round of ordering if you would like to order a uniform piece that your student still wants or needs.  This will be the last opportunity to order practice shirts, compression wear, shoes and bags.

o   If you ordered after 8/6, your compression, bags and practice shirts have not arrived.

o   Some items were back ordered, so please check your orders and receipts from ensemble center before you reorder anything.

o   If you have concerns about uniform pieces or your order, please email booster-uniforms@wakelandband.com

 

·      Spirit wear update:

o   Spirit wear will be arriving from our vendor around Sept. 2nd. Once it is received there will be a table set up at one of our practices for pick up. Please go to ensemble to order additional spirit wear. 

o   There will also be spirit wear available at the game at Memorial in 2 weeks. Thanks!
