| Congrats to the WHS Wind Symphony. On Thursday, June 18, the Wind Symphony entered a recording |
| in the TMEA Area A Honor Band Competition. The Band placed 1st, advancing to TMEA State |
| Competition on Sunday, July 26 in San Antonio. This is the second consecutive year the WHS Wind Symphony |
| has earned a trip to the TMEA State Honor Band Process (2008 in AAA and 2009 in AAAA). Congrats to all! |

| Congrats to Wakeland High School's UIL State Solo and Ensemble Performers. On Saturday, May 30, |
| 32 WHS Band members travelled to Austin to participate in the UIL TSSEC held on the UT-Austin campus. |

| Congrats to the Wakeland HS Wind Symphony. On Thursday, May 14, the Wind Symphony earned straight |
| Superior Ratings at the Peak Festival SpringFest at the Murchison PAC (University of North Texas). |
| Additionally, the Wind Symphony was awarded the Best Overall Band at the contest. |

| All 3 Winterguards competed in the Aledo NTCA Contest. |
| The G3 Winterguard placed 5th in the Regional A - White Division. |
| The JV Winterguard placed 6th in the Regional A - Purple Division. |
| The Varsity Winterguard placed 3rd in their first show as a Scholastic A Guard. |

| The G3 Winterguard competed at the Centennial HS NTCA Contest on Friday night. They placed 3rd in the |
| Novice Class and advanced into Regional A Competition for the remainder of the season. |
|
| The JV Winterguard competed for the first time in the WGI Austin Regional on Saturday morning. They placed 4th |
| in their WGI Debut performance. Way to go! |
|
| The Varsity Winterguard made history when, in their Winterguard International Debut Performance, they placed 4th |
| in the 1st Round of Scholastic A Competition and advanced to Finals. When the 2 rounds met, the WHS Varisty |
| Winterguard finished 13th overall. Congrats on being named WGI Regional Finalists and automatically advancing to |
| NTCA's Scholastic A Class as a result of this achievement. |

| Congrats to the Wakeland HS Band. On Saturday, February 7, 2009, 120 WHS Band members participated in the |
| UIL Region XXIV Solo and Ensemble Contest. At the highly-competitive contest, 75 students earned a 1st Division, |
| and 40 qualifed for the UIL Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest. Congrats to all involved! |

| competed in the Lone Star Classic Drumline Competition sponsored by Marcus HS. The Drumline |
| placed 8th in Marching Competition, competing against some of the best drumlines in the state. |

| 2nd Annual Little Elm Marching Classic on the Lake. After the Preliminary Round, the WHS Band |
| placed 3rd, winning the Guard caption. After the Finals Round, the Band placed 5th and again |

| GRAND CHAMPION at the Denton Golden Triangle Marching Competition. |
| After the Prelims Round, the Band placed 3rd and won the General Effect - |

| Performance, the Wakeland Band ranked 1st PLACE, winning the Music, |

| Congrats to our first two All-Region Band Members of the 2008-2009 School Year. |
| On Saturday, September 20, auditions were held for the 2008-2009 TMEA All-Region Jazz |
| Ensemble. Of 6 WHS students who auditioned, 2 earned placement in the jazz ensembles. |
| Ben Hauser earned a trumpet spot in the 2nd All-Region Jazz Band, and James Newton earned |
| the top jazz guitar spot in the 1st Jazz Band and will be advancing to Area competition |
| next Wednesday. Congrats to both! |
